There were 42 rigs that participated, which translates to about 84 people, yet it still felt so intimate. The people were wonderful and so very friendly. Even though we were the new people, they took us right in and made us feel right at home.
The rally was held at the Old Farmer's Opry Campground in Chumuckla, FL. Nice campground and the owners were bending over backward to see that we were happy there. They provided a free breakfast and a free dinner (who doesn't like free food?).
The Old Farmer's Opry is a family business. Every Fri and Sat they have a country music show (when did "Hound Dog" become country?). Or maybe more of an oldies show. The Sawdust Band is quite good and they have one really good male singer. Then there was a little girl about 8, who sang. Naturally we were not expecting too much from her, hey, they have to start somewhere. Well, that kid could belt out a song! We did a double take. She's a cutie too.
The Opry is set up as a dinner and show. Dinner is served family style before the show. The 2 are priced separately, so you don't really have to do the dinner if you don't want to. Since we had already tasted their cooking, we definitely wanted the dinner!
Other things that happened at the rally was some crafts, a trip to the catfish farm, a trip to the peanut farm and a trip to the train museum; all of which we enjoyed.
We had a lunch swap. Everyone got a numbered bag in which you put a sandwich, chips, dessert, fruit - what ever you usually like to have in a bag lunch. When all the lunches were brought to the clubhouse, you then picked a number and that was the lunch you got. Don and I did really good. Nobody complained that I know of except the guy that got the bag of rocks. He declined to eat them because of his dentures, so they gave him a real lunch. This is the kind of prank pulled all the time there. We elected a "Sheriff" who just visited around and could fine you (25 cents) whenever he wanted to. Like if you didn't wear your badge, or didn't smile when he came up or what ever. However, he himself was fined $10 for giving Al the lunchbag of rocks!
The second day of the rally Don and I were "adopted" by the chapter. Our "parents" were named Al and Joyce and they were such fun! They invited us out to dinner that night - of course it was the free dinner given by the campground.
We had such fun and met such wonderful folks, it was almost sad to pack up and leave on Sat. morning.
We will most assuredly go to another rally sometime. We are trying to find out about the chapter here in this area.
In April the Old Farmer's Opry has a weekend bluegrass festival and from the photos, it is really big. We are trying to see if we can work out a way to go there.
God Bless
