Looks like the truck may finally be fixed. Took 4 trips to the dealer, but it has now been a week and no "check engine" light. yipee. (makes TM easier to be around)
Haven't been super busy. Went to downtown Marquette to look around. We haven't actually been to the port yet, but we saw the Yacht Club (oh hum). The downtown is doing ok, not many closed shops at all. We ate at Donekers and the food was really good - and plentiful. They are also a candy shop. The bear claws (turtles) are scrumptious, but the fudge leaves something to be desired. It isn't bad, just not southern fudge.
We went to the Independence day parade and it was fun. Started out with people handing out little flags to wave, then there was all the candy that was thrown to the kids. They had some nice floats. Only one band, Marquette Senior High School, but there was the football team and the soccer team and the volleyball team. Nice weather for it too.
We took a ride up to Copper Harbor, MI and Fort Wilkins State Park. TD got to go this time and he enjoyed it. Had a bunch of kiddos surround him and pet, pet, pet. He is such a good boy. Anyway the area is beautiful. It is about a 3 hr. drive from here and the terrain is so different. We then came back by Eagle Harbor and the lighthouse museum there. Really fascinating and they have an old light with Frennell lenses. Also there is a "new" 1927 Chrysler there. Seems in 1926 a ship carrying 220 of these cars foundered at the harbor and was going down. They were able to save all the cars and kept one in Eagle Harbor. The rest were driven back to Detroit and refurbished and sold once again as new. Anybody willing to drive one was paid $5.00. Not $5.00 per day - $5.00 for the job. Lot of money in those days.
We had no cell service in Copper Harbor, but Eagle Harbor was fine.
