And don't you know tomorrow never comes? Ok, ok, so I am still running behind.
Let's see, we made it to Florida just fine. Monday morning, we found a great little diner for breakfast, yum. Then we hit the "streets" looking for an RV. Boy, was it hot! Walk across asphalt and then go into a hot RV (why didn't we do this in winter?). Don drove 2 or 3 RV's and liked the handling on one in particular. As some of you know, I had mentioned to him about a 5th wheel as opposed to a Class A. He wasn't very enthusiastic, just said we needed to look in one. Well, the last RV place we looked didn't have any RV's, but did have a 5th wheel. It was locked, but just so happened that they were operating out of a 5th wheel while their office is being remodeled. We walked into that and Don was pretty much sold. The difference in room and feel is like night and day. We got back to the hotel and just vegged. We didn't even go over to see Michael and the girls. That heat had just sapped us. But we did talk about RV vs. 5th.
So, Tuesday morning it was car (truck) dealers we went to. Looked at a Chevy and a GM and a Dodge. Dodge won! (like anybody thought it wouldn't). We traded my precious Honda CRV in on a 1-ton, diesel, quad-cab, duallie. :( The dealer told us what they wanted for the truck and we told them what we could pay, out-the-door, and what we needed done to it. We won! Got that baby for our price. It is silver and very nice. The back seat is even comfortable. We left it there for them to take care of the things we needed and to detail it.
Went over that night and spent a short time at Michael's. He and Don were planning to work on Michelle's car, but we were running too late and Michael was not feeling too good. So that got shelved.
Wednesday, we "took the day off". We drove out to Patrick AFB and shopped at the BX. Then we went and looked at their FamCamp (AF-ese for RV camp). It is really nice. Sits right on the Banana River and has nice lots, full hook-up. No wi-fi, but you can go 2 miles to the library and get it.
Around 3p or so, we picked up the truck (of course that took an hour). Then went to Michael's and he and Don fixed Michelle's car. She was a happy camper.
Thursday, we drove to Sarasota to see my cousin and wife, Monte and Joan, and my Uncle Bill and Aunt Jean. After lunch, Monte took us to a couple of RV dealers and we found our 5th wheel. It met my criteria of washer & driver and Don's criteria of generator and (are you ready?) computer desk. :). It is nice that all those are packaged in a 34' tailer with 4 slides. So negotiations began. Once more the dealer told us their price and we told them what we wanted done and what we could pay out-the-door. We won again!
Well they needed to put the hitch in the bed of the truck meaning we needed to have it there Friday morning. They weren't sure how long it would take them, so that presented a problem. We needed to be at Orlando airport at 2p to pick up Sheila. Monte, bless him, told us to just take his truck.
So, Friday morning we were at the dealers bright and early to leave the truck and head to Orlando. We were able to meet Mellan and Richard for lunch. Spent something over 2 hours at Panera eating and (mostly) talking. We did confuse them by having Monte's truck. You just don't see that many white trucks with the orange "T" in FL. It was so great to see them and have the time to spend.
We got to the airport about 10 minutes before Sheila called to tell us she had her luggage and was headed outside. Great timing. I am not very airport savvy, so some of you may already know about this. Orlando has a "cell-phone lot". If you are waiting (like we were) for someone to call and let you know they are ready, you can park free in this lot. Time is limited and they do check it so nobody abuses it. When you leave, it is a straight shot to the arrivals pickup area. Sheila was tired, but needed to get on the phone with work-related stuff, so we dropped her off and went to the hotel for a while.
