Blue Spring State Park

What a wonderful Park! Lots of space for picnicing and other stuff.

Look close and you can see one diver and the air bubles of his "buddy."

The Spring is nice. We saw some divers going down under the rock shelf and it looked dark down there. Evidently they get lots of divers there. At this time swimming was not being allowed, but the "swimming hole" looked really neat.

Manatees and more manatees!!! Due to the cold snap recently, the manatee had begun coming up the St. Johns River to the warm spring. We saw one, and then another, and then a whole bunch. All together there were over a dozen! It was such a beautiful day and the water was clear-except where there were about 6 swimming around together and stirring up the bottom. Down at the river, we also spotted an alligator sunning itself.

They offer 2-hr eco cruises on the river for a minimal price, but it was too late in the day for us to take one. Since we would like to go back anyway, that is a good excuse.

Also on the property is a house from the 1880's when steamboats were king. You can go into the

house, but it is not furnished. There are displays in each room telling about the family and what life was like.

We could not take traveling dog out to the spring, but were able to get him and go to the picnic area and up to the river. He was happy. There were lots of people there, and td wanted to be petted by all of them. He got petted by several.
