My cousin Monte & wife, Joan are in Rogersville for the week (until Sat 07/07). We decided they needed company, so we called and they were willing to have us.
We left here about 9a on Tuesday. We being, Don, Me, Jeremy, Apryl, Cleo (their dog), Bell (the dog they are keeping this week), AND the dirt bikes. Luckily, the dirt bikes had their own trailer and did not have to ride with the 6 of us. Bell is a 13-wk-old lab mix and weighs about 20 lbs. She was really good and mostly wanted to stay on the floor. Apryl & Cleo slept most of the way, Bell was quiet, I read and Don & Jeremy talked.
When we got there - out in the country on their 35 acres - Jeremy's almost first question was where they could ride the bikes. Pretty much anywhere, but might want to stay out of ravines and the creek (or is that "crick" in East Tennessean?). We visited for awhile sitting out under the tree. It was such a beautiful day and cooler than in Knoxville. Apryl got the grand tour of the "cabin" and was suitably impressed. The "cabin" is the little house that was on the property when they bought it. Really not too bad, but would take work to make it truly livable. They have the place cleared for the house they will be erecting and it is a lovely spot. They will thin the trees in front and have a good view of the creek and pastureland.
Jeremy and Don were soon on the bikes. Jeremy was checking out the terrian while Don checked out his bike. He has not ridden in some years, so of course had never ridden this bike. He was smart and took some time just playing around in the drive to get the feel of all the controls, etc. Then he was off into the wilds. Again he was smart and didn't try and do all the things Jeremy did, since Jeremy is practically a pro.
The rest of us just sat chatting and playing with the dogs. Apryl was constantly checking for ticks and I don't blame her, I don't like those things either. She threathend to make Jeremy strip in the garage when they got home so she could check him before he brought any in the house. We haven't asked, being the sensitive people we are, if she actually carried thru. We walked up to the house site plus showed Apryl & Jeremy the "his and hers shed" that is on the property. Really, a his and hers shed. A door on each side and wall down the middle - no access from one side to the other. Very strange, or smart, which one?
We went to lunch at a local eatery. Small cafe in a former gas station. The food was good and Don got butterscotch pie. He was one happy fella. The pies were homemade (I got chocolate) and lucious (sp?).
We had left the dogs in the cabin, locked in an empty room. You should have seen poor Cleo looking out the window as we left. So pitiful. "Mom, you are leaving me alone with this?!" They were, of course, just fine when we got back, but Cleo made a beeline for Apryl as fast as when could.
Shortly thereafter we headed back home. Pretty much the same scene as before, except that Bell laid on the seat and slept. The dogs were bushed and both sacked out all the way.
Almost forgot. Joan brought some water in a plastic bowl out for the dogs. Bell thought that was pretty cool, so she picked up the bowl and was carrying it around. I mean she picked it up and carried it with the water still in it. Cleo was following her trying to get to it, but Bell was pretty quick to turn and keep it from her. Was so funny, but couldn't get a photo, sorry. Eventually, Bell did manage to empty the water out, so forgot about playing with the bowl.

Butterscotch Pie? Are you for real? I can't believe that anyone still makes that! Ask Don to eat a piece for me next time! As always, it sounds like a fun time!!!
Love to all :)
