Still Alive

Time goes flying. I'll see if I can catch up.

Remember when I said Nick was acting funny and we thought it was because of the house being all topsy-turvy? Well, he had been chewing on his tail and it was all raw, so Don took him to the vet for treatment. The vet tried to shave the area so he could look at it and wound up having to send Nick to la-la land because it seemed to hurt him so much. When they got it shave it became obvious what the trouble was. Nick had broken his tail! That's right, near the end of his tail was a very definite break. No, we don't know how he did it, or even when he did it. Even the vet was like "Huh?". We thought he might have to cut off that part of the tail, but it looks like he did not. Actually, I am not sure just what he did, but it seems to be better. It still hurts Nick some, but we don't stop hurting immediately after surgery either. We are keeping a eagle eye on him to keep him from licking or chewing on it. He is kind of funny really, because he will look at his tail and then at one of us and sigh. He knows better than to touch it, but he has to make sure whether we are looking or not. At night and whenever we have to be away, he goes to prision; i.e. the dreaded "cone"! Most of you have probably seen a dog with the plastic cone around their head to keep them from being able to reach the rest of the body. As I said, he seems to be doing ok and healing well.
On Tuesday, we drove to Spring City to look at a motor home Liz had told us about. She had seen it on the side of the road with a "for sale" sign on it. Well, we looked over the outside and liked the look of it, so gave the owner a call. He met us there about an hour later and escorted us inside. The batteries were dead so we could not drive it or operate the slide, but that was ok. It is really very nice and a good deal because when he bought it, it had flood damage. He has completely repaired and deodorized so you would never know. It had been sitting on the side of the road for 2 months (the reason the batteries were dead) and when he opened it there was no musty or moldy smell. It didn't smell new, but smelled like it had been well kept and cleaned. He was really nice and said he would definitely replace the batteries when someone buys the unit. We are seriously thinking of making a bid on it. We are praying for guidance on that.
I also talked to Sheila on Tuesday. Monday was her birthday and she called to thank us for the gifts. Since Michelle was in Chicago, they weren't really celebrating, but she got to open the gifts. They seem to be doing well. Sheila and Michael are in CA this week on business.
Mary is still hoping to come up here this summer, but time is running out. She called on Monday and we had a nice chat. She loves being able to drive and not have to wait for someone to take her everywhere. When she called me, she had just finished doing volunteer work at Vero Beach. This week she is helping with horse camp at the barn where she rides.
I haven't talked to Michelle, but Sheila said she really enjoyed her trip to Chicago and met people from all over the world.
Saturday, Don and I had a yard sale. Trying to get rid of some of our "stuff". It was a slow start because of the rain, but we actually did pretty good. Who would have thought how quickly the LPs and CDs would go. The first customer bought all the Elvis, Beatles and Big Band LPs.
We met the nicest young couple. Josh and Paula. Paula has just finished her master's and will be teaching for the first time this schools year. We had some things she could use in her classroom. We also had a large "white board" that we had not planned to sell yet. We were using it to block of the area where we had stuff not for sale. She immediately asked the price of the board and Don told her it wasn't for sale. She said, oh it would have been perfect for my classroom. Don says, you are a teacher? "Yes, my first year". Don: OK, you can have it. Paula: how much? Don: You are a teacher, we are giving it to you. Me: nodding my head yes. They were so excited and continued to offer to pay. Teachers are so underpaid and underappreciated, we are glad to help in the small ways we can. When they came back to pick it up, they brought their dog, Sadie. she is about the size of Cleo, but looks more like a Brittany spaniel. She and Nick had a ball! Chasing each other around the cars, around the yard, around the people! It was good to see Nick have that kind of energy.
Of course, we didn't get rid of even 1/2 the stuff and we have more to gather up, so another yard sale is in the planning in about a month or so. Since no one was even looking at clothing, we are going to take all that to Goodwill or KARM. They can deal with it.
Apryl & Jeremy came over about 12:30, we closed up the sale and went to lunch. It was great to spend time with them (as always).
Guess I have been at this long enough. Thanks for reading (if you made it this far)!
Much love and God Bless
((Hugs))
