delightful weekend

On Saturday, TM and I went grocery shopping (see how exciting our life is). We drove into the historic district of DeFuniak Springs and located the church building. We also visited the old railroad depot. Later in the day our friends, Doug and Glo arrived. We met them at their hotel and had dinner with them; then went back to their hotel room and chatted for about an hour. They were pretty tired because of changing time zones and being stuck in traffic for about 2 hours. We were able to give them directions to the church building.
We all met at the building on Sunday morning. Bible class starts at 9:00, which is a little early, but we made it there. Lots of nice people at this congregation, many of them from Tennessee. We had lunch and then went to downtown so they could see the station and the historic buildings. Nothing in DeFuniak Springs downtown is open on Sunday, so we told Doug and Glo they needed to stay another day. Abouth 3:00 they went back to the hotel and we went home. Everybody needed a little nap.
Evening services were at 6:00 and this week was a singing. There was also finger foods and fellowship afterwards (being guests we got to go first).
Doug and Glo did decide to stay another day, so we made plans to meet in downtown around 10:00am. Monday was a beautiful day with just enough breeze to keep cool. We went into The Big Store, which is basically a gift and antique store. The owners were very interesting to talk to as they knew much about the history of the town. Next we went to The Little Big Store. What a fun place. It is just cram full of old and new things. The owner is from Crossville, TN and we had a long conversation.
Then we went over to the library, where the librarian was very helpful. They have several notebooks filled with historical documents of Dufuniak Springs. She also gave us a walking tour guide. Unfortuneately, there wasn't enough time to do the tour. We went to lunch at Murray's Cafe. Since it was St. Pat's day, they were having Shepherd's pie and everyone ordered that. Except me. I couldn't pass up the chance to have a hamburger with fried green tomatoes on it. Very good.
Doug and Glo left after lunch in order to get to Auburn before too late in the day.
It was great fun and I could write on and on, but you might get tired of reading.
