Spring Grove

The drive to Spring Grove was totally in the rain, some of it very hard rain. Ick. In St. Paul we came off one interstate into a left hand lane. Guess when we had to be in the right hand lane for our connection? Yep, in about 100 yds. No way we could make it since, guess what, there was lots of traffic. TM was pretty frustrated. However, on our detour we went by the railroad yard so he got over it. Big yard too. Just sorry there was too much traffic for him to really look. Oh well.

At Spring Grove, we had about 1-1/2 miles of dirt road to get to the campground. Then, of course, the campsite was muddy. At least it was not raining when we were setting up, even if we were wading.. It is a very nice campground and we enjoyed being there. Our site backed up to the creek, so we could listen to it at night, when the rain didn't drown it out.

Next morning we were off to Niagara Cave with its 60 ft. waterfall. What a bust!

And here is what you really get to see.

We don't recommend it. You are looking down on the waterfall and the lighting is poor, can't even get a good picture. After that, you walk for about 45 minutes down a trail that is totally unimpressive. Live and learn.

There were a couple of decent areas if the cave, not enough to spend an hour looking for though.

The good part was that we stopped for breakfast at a great local restaurant. And after our cave tour, we stopped at still another place for homemade pie. TM had rhubarb raspberry and I had rhubarb blueberry. M-m-m good!

The rest of our time was spent in the trailer since the rain never really let up.

This area has an Amish population and the fields are so beautiful. Enjoyed the scenery even in the rain.
