was on Sunday, Dec. 4. We left our church services early to get to Clermont and meet Sheila and Michael by noon. We went to Panera and had lunch, then to the church, as the family was supposed to be there at 1:00.
It was great to see the family. My sister Cindy was there also. She originally said she could not afford to come, but was able to after all. So all 4 of us were there, me, Chip, Cindy and Gayle. Really odd to talk of the 4 of us rather than the 5. My cousin, Monte was also able to come.
At the front was a picture of Mellan and the urn with her ashes. The urn was perfect, pink flowers. She really liked pastels.
The service started just after 2 pm. There were probably 100 - 125 people there. The preacher, Dawn, did a really nice job. She read several scriptures and the piece that Richard had written as a good-bye. My nephew, Rick, read a piece he had written about the mom that she was. He choked up at the very end and barely got the last paragraph out. I was given the mike to read my poem I had written about being sisters. Due to practicing a lot, I made it all the way thru. Had not been able to do that at home without stopping to cry. Amanda, her 10 yr old granddaughter read a letter she had written to her grandmom.
The floor was opened for anyone to tell someway that Mellan was special to them. Had several speak. Chip was the last one and he could not finish, got too choked. So someone else spoke. Then Chip decided he was ready, but once again could not finish.
The reception afterwards was really nice and it was good to have a chance to speak with everyone.
We got home about 5 pm and were just exhausted, so did not attend evening services. I think Don and I both knew that people would ask and we would break down.
Thanks to everyone for you prayers and sympathy. It has been and will continue to be a trying time.
God Bless

It started out fine
That would be the holiday weekend. We took Fancy and headed to Merritt Island with pies and rice krispy treats. It was wonderful to see the granddaughters. Michael made an incredible meal and we tried not to stuff ourselves too much. Sheila and Michelle spent the afternoon packing for trip to Boston. We took some of the bags in our truck and Michael took the rest in the car. Michelle rode with him and Sheila rode with us. Does that let you know how much luggage they had? Really only 3 checked bags plus 1 carry-on apiece plus the cat.
Got home and had a message from my sister Mellan. I figured she called to say Happy Thanksgiving, and I was looking forward to talking to her. Instead it was a message from her husband that she was in the hospital with pneumonia. That was a surprise as she had been getting so much better and her appetite was returning. I called him back and told him to tell her to be home by Thursday when we would be coming to Clermont to visit. We joked about that and he said he would be sure and tell her and give her incentive. On Friday, I talked with my niece and there wasn't much change, but they were hooking up the dialysis to remove some fluid.
My niece called me around 9:30pm to let me know that her mother, my older sister had passed away. Could hardly take it in and believe it. Seems there was just too much fluid in her lungs and surrounding her organs and there was just nothing they could do.
We drove to Clermont on Saturday and spent the day. Found out that the family had been able to be by her bedside and say their "good-byes". That will mean so much to them as time goes on. Most of the day we just helped each other cry. So hard.
There will be a memorial service next Sunday and we expect many coming from out of state.
Thanks to all of you who have prayed for Mellan over the years. Now please pray for her family as we all struggle thru this and get used to the new "normal" of our lives.
God Bless

Rally
had a great time at the Chapter 57 Escapees rally! I dressed up for the 50s night and had the best costume. Too bad the judges did not agree with me, so I didn't get any prize. What I did have was a lot of fun.
We were kept busy the entire 5 days. One day we had a group of pre-K kids come in and sing for us. Were they ever adorable. There was one little girl really made me think of Michelle at that age. They really liked the ice cream they got afterwards. Great group of well behaved children.
We were there over Veterans Day, so went to the Florida National Cemetery for the program there. Always makes me proud and sad. Afterwards TM and I drove to the restaurant where we ate last year and it was closed! Bummer for real because they had good food and were so very friendly. Went home and ate sandwiches.
On Sunday we drove here to Peace Creek where we will spend the winter. TM has been getting the pavers down for our patio and it really looks good. We are both trying to get some organization to the trailer now that we have time. What a chore! We are realizing how we more or less threw stuff in when we moved and now we have to go thru so much stuff. We may be lightening our load a bit.
Yesterday (Saturday) we were up early and went to Jacksonville for a seminar on essential tremor. It was really well done and we gleaned a lot of good information. It was at Mayo Clinic and the neurologist and neurosurgeon who specialize in ET and DBS talked to us and answered questions. There were probably about 125 people there. On the way back we stopped at Ruby Tuesday for lunch (had a coupon).
We took Fancy with us and it worked out well. We were in a parking garage at Mayo, so there was so sun beating down on the truck. Plus the temp was around 72, so he did fine. At Ruby's we ate on the patio and Fancy could see us from the truck, so he just watched. No barking, yea!
Guess that is about it. God Bless.

Moving right along
My silly computer is giving me problems, so I haven't written. However, I will try to do some catching up.
We left Knoxville Oct 11 for the Navy campground at Lake Allatoona, GA. Mistake. We didn't fit in the site they had assigned us. After much frustration trying to get the trailer to fit, we left there and headed south. Found a nice campground to spend the nite. The next day we headed to the Northshore Resort on Lake Oconee. Very nice campground with a railroad theme. Plenty of old railroad cars for TM to drool over.
After a few days of R&R, we were off to Montgomery. The Famcamp at Maxwell is so nice and we love spending time with niece Evelyn. As we usually do, we went to the arts and crafts show that Saturday.
DeFuniak Springs FL was our next stop. Our 3rd year to be at the Escapees Chapter 26 Fall rally. It was good to see everyone again and to meet some new folks. We took time to go to Crestview, Fl and have lunch with our friends, Steve and Jessie Coffin. We knew them when on Guam and had only seen them one other time in the last 26 years. Fell right back into it with them like we had not been apart that long. Except for catching up on grandchildren.
As quickly as we got back to DeFuniak Springs, we headed for Waffle House and met with Sheila and Michael for about an hour. They were on their way to New Orleans to visit Michelle. It was great to see them for a while.
We are now in Clermont so that we can spend some time with my sister, Mellan. Unfortunately, she has been in the hospital (just got out Tues nite) and we feel obligated to limiting our time so she can get plenty of rest and build up her strength. She is looking good and seems to be recovering at a steady rate. We are also enjoying attending services at Wildwood and being with our friends there.
We leave here Tues. to go to Bushnell and the Escapees Chapter 27 Fall Rally. Looking forward to that one also.
So, you see, nothing too exciting. We are enjoying our new traveler dog, Fancy. He is a fun boy and keeps us entertained. He is an excellent traveler and has learned to be good when we leave him in the trailer for an hour or 3 - no more constant barking or crying. He has only peed in the house once and that was on a bunch of rags we had in the floor. The rags were there to wipe his feet when we brought him in, therefore no big deal.

Been a while
Our time in Knoxville was busy and exhausting. Getting TM's mom doing better was a challenge. She needs to drink more water to keep from getting dehydrated and delusional again. We tried to make sure she had a bottle of water next to her at all times. That way if she was thirsty and didn't feel like walking to the kitchen, she didn't have to. Also tried to eat meals with her, since that made it more likely she would actually eat. She is doing much better, but still needs someone with her nearly all the time. Soon she should be moving in with her daughter and that may solve a number of problems. We also hired someone to come in and help her bathe and wash her hair. That really has made a difference in how she feels. Nothing like clean hair to pep you up!
I did have time to get away and have lunch with my friend Brenda, a few times. Also, 4 of us, Brenda, Liz, Nita and I got together for s meal and to "tour" Liz's house one evening. It was such fun, hope we can do it next time I am in!
Right now we are in GA. More later. God bless

New axle
Finally! It took more than 2 weeks, but that saved us campground fees ;). On Monday, 9/12, we went to Paducah and picked up our home. Nice to see it fixed. We spent the night at the KOA we had been to before. Everyone was so nice. Since it had to happen, was good that it could be where there are competent nice folks.
On Tues., 9/13, we drove straight from Paducah to Greeneville, TN - a 7 hour drive. By the time we got back to Knoxville, we were pretty well beat beyond thought. We are getting too old for that kind of stuff. Our usual drive time is 3 to 4 hours!
On Thursday we went to the funeral of a dear friend. John A. Brown, Jr. was a sweet, Godly man. He served as an elder at Laurel Church of Christ for 34 years. So many people at Laurel now will never know what a driving force he was and the amount of work he did for the congregation. Without John Brown Laurel would not be what it is today. Rest in Peace, praising the God you love, John. We have loved you.
Friday, we had lunch with our friends Al and Joann Garcia. It was so good to see them. Certainly hope we get to visit with them again before we head out again.
On Saturday we had lunch with our friends Pat and David Walls. After lunch TM and I wandered over to the animal shelter. So many sweet dogs there and they all had such sad eyes and tried to impress us that we should take them home. So Monday 9/18 we will be picking up our miniature poodle after he is neutered. Amazing how many of you were anxious to share suggestions for a name. Thank you for taking an interest! Think we have settled on Mr. Fancy Pants aka Fancy. I nearly had cardiac arrest when TM said we would take him. He is not a small-dog person. But Fancy knew how to get to him. He cuddled right up on TM's chest and never barked once. (Barky dogs are not our style.)
For now that is the news! God Bless

Diana!!
We were blessed to attend the Diana Singing again this year. Even tho we missed being there early to help set up and camp; we did attend the Friday night singing. Our friends, the Woodalls, asked if we wanted to ride with them and we jumped at the chance. Doug even made the motel reservations for us.
We had a great trip over, stopping at Cookeville to eat at Crawdaddy's and visiting the railroad museum. Had beautiful weather.
We checked in at the motel round 3pm and then headed over to the singing. It was so good to see friends, many of whom we had not seen since last Sept. And, of course, the good ham sandwiches and fried pies.
The singing was amazing. Probably around 3,000 people and we almost drowned out the trains going by.
We met up with our friend Jean Flake and caught up on all the summer happenings. Then this morning at breakfast, I met a woman who knew Jean years ago. She was really sorry she did not know Jean was at the singing.
At breakfast we sat with a group from MS and found out how many friends we have in common. One couple used to live in Knoxville and are trying to get moved back.
What a small, wonderful world.
On our way back today, we stopped in Fayetteville and did some shopping. South's largest fabric store - whoopee. Had coffee and snack at Elk River Coffee Company, then traveled on.
We had wonderful weather the whole weekend. We had a lovely drive. And we so thoroughly enjoyed being with good friends.
Thanks Doug and Glo.

Been a while
Things have been kind of different. We do not have our home back yet. Found out today that the axle was shipped yesterday. No idea why it took so long to ship, but glad to know it is on the way. The repair place is glad as our place takes up a lot of their space. TM went up last Thursday to get some stuff. Long day for him - Knoxville to Paduca and back.
We have mostly just been staying with TM's mom and caring for her. She is very weak and not getting any strength back, despite the physical therapist. Of course most of the time she refuses to do her exercises for us so she is only getting the 3 times a week. She does eat pretty well when we fix food and eat with her. Still having trouble getting her to drink enough.
TM has had no time to go work on the scooter. It is just sitting there. Hey, maybe it will just decide to be fixed when fired up again! Good to have dreams, right?
We have enjoyed being back at Laurel Church of Christ and our friends there. Wednesday night dinners are such a good time to catch up.
We are going to be able to go to the Diana Singing for Friday night. Our friends asked if we would like to go with them and stay in a motel overnight. We jumped at the chance and are so looking forward to it.
TM's sister and family are going on vacation the last 2 weeks of Sept. We should be moving MIL from her house as soon as they return. We are hoping to leave here around Oct 6 and start for Fl. We will see.
God Bless.

Unreal few days
We decided that we needed to get to Knoxville since TM's mom was in the hospital. I hated to call Memphis and let them know we were not coming, but they understood (of course). Also sad to be missing our time in Diana.
Thursday morning we left Litchfield, IL headed for Paducah, Ky as our overnight stop. Had a good trip - until we pulled into the campground. Got out of the truck and looked at the trailer and one of the wheels was sitting wonky. TM immediately took a look (duh) and found the bearings had broken. As we parked the trailer, the people in the office called a repair company for us. They got the wheel off and realized that it just could not be fixed on-site. We spent the evening gathering up clothes and emptying the refrigerator preparing to move out. Friday morning TM moved the trailer as I sat at the park with boxes and coolers around me. When we got back, we rapidly stuck everything in the truck and headed for breakfast. TM was on the motor scooter and I driving the truck.
Everything went fine for about 80 miles. Then the scooter got tired and just quit running. Actually, it sputtered for a bit before quitting. We had to leave it on the side of I-24 near Clarksville, TN. Called the state police who told us that the scooter should be fine in daylight, but after dark was anybody's guess. We came to Knox, borrowed a trailer from our son-in-love, Jeremy, and drove back to the scooter. We got there around 11pm and the scooter was still there. Fun loading that thing in the dark, but we got it done. We were wise enough to spend the night in Clarksville. Had enough on-the-road time for the day.
We got a call about mid afternoon to let us know the trailer needs a new axle. TM had expected this, so was not a surprise. We have not gotten an estimate of cost yet - guess that will be the surprise - eekk!
Saturday morning we had continental breakfast at the hotel and started back. We decided we needed to stop for lunch at Cumberland Mountain State Park in Crossville. CMSP is one of our favorite places to go. Managed to get there just ahead of the crowd and had a wonderful (ate too much) lunch. Got to Knoxville after a, thankfully, uneventful trip.
TM's mom is at home now, but not doing great. The decision has been made that she can no longer live alone. I have been investigating assisted living, but looks like she will be moving in with her daughter. Hoping that works out.
So that is our story for now.

dinner with friends
We had such a delightful time with Ron and Anne Thomas yesterday! She made soup and bread! Oh, yum, I love homemade bread! And I need to find out the spices she used in that soup, so good. Anne, if you read this then you know to send me your recipe!
It was great to catch up on all each others "doings" since our time in Guam. I probably talked too much, but then I tend to do that. It was great and well worth the drive over there.
Tomorrow we leave Litchfield for Knoxville. Not the way we planned it, but we need to get there. Traveling Man's mother is in the hospital there. She had been having some problems at home, so when his sister took her to the doctor they put Mom into the hospital to run test. Also she was somewhat dehydrated.
We will drive to Paducah, KY, stop for the night and then on to Knox. Our route will be pretty much all interstate, so should be fairly easy driving (I hope).
We will miss our trip to Memphis and seeing the relatives there, but they do understand. Hopefully we will get to Memphis before we go to Florida.
That is my quick update for now. Will let you know more about his mom when we know more.
God Bless

Been a while
We left Marquette on Thursday, Aug 11. Wed, 8/10, we were feeling pretty low but knew that meeting for Bible study would be the best thing we could do. After a really good class on 1 Peter, they had an ice cream social to say good-by to us. It was a total surprise and we were humbled that they would do that for us. We have so enjoyed being a part of the Marquette Church of Christ for almost 2 months.
We went from Marquette to Gresham WI. At the campground there wi-fi was almost non existent. It is a very nice campground though. We attended Sunday services there and enjoyed being with a good group of people. Not a really large congregation, but there were a number of young families there which is very encouraging. As we left, someone had brought 2 large bags of corn for whoever wanted any. We took 4 ears and, boy, were they good.
Our next stop was in Belvidere, IL. Enjoyed the campground there also. Never did get around to getting in their olympic size pool.
Here we are in Litchfield, IL at Honey Bend Campground. We were here in 2008 and really liked the campground. Last time we backed up onto a corn field and had some nice fresh corn, but this time they have planted soybeans. Don't think we will be bothering those! We are enjoying hearing the trains go by. Church service was interesting. I think there were 10 people there, including us. We had singing, communion and Bible study. There is no preacher, so 2 of the men swap out teaching. Everyone was friendly and it was nice to meet them.
Tuesday our plan is to drive to Sullivan, IL and visit with a couple we knew in Guam. So looking forward to spending time with them.
This afternoon we played 18 holes of golf. We didn't keep score, but I think we finished about even. You do realize it was mini-golf, right?
Guess that about catches us up. Not exciting, but we are well and content and that seems to be exciting enough for us right now.
God Bless.

God Bless.

R.I.P.T.D.
How quickly things change. By Monday evening TD had started downhill. I heard him crying that evening. He wasn't asleep, just hurting. Bless his heart as quick as he realized I was on to him, he quit. That night and Tuesday, we watched him struggle to breathe. The mass was pressing on his lungs. And he had slowed way down on walks. Today, rather than us trying to keep up with him, he was barely keeping up with us. He was just so tired, it was obvious he was in pain.
At 4 pm we took him to the wonderful vet here in Marquette and put him to rest and out of pain. He was so tired that he just laid on his pillow while we waited for the vet to come in. He barely raised his head as the vet talked to me. All went well and we are sure we did the right thing. Traveling was just going to be too hard on him.
So one of the sweetest dogs ever is gone. We were privileged to have had him for 13 years. To know him was to love him.

Traveling Dog
As some of you already know, we took TD to the vet last week because he was having some problems. Turns out he has a large abdominal tumor. The vet told us up front that it would be useless to operate. Our options were: leave him there to be euthanized, take him home without doing anything, or give him prednisone and see if it helps in reducing the inflammation around the tumor and he begins to feel better. Duh - let me think long enough to get the words out of my mouth - Give me the drugs!
So in 2 days he was much better. His swollen tummy has subsided and he is perky again. New problem, having a little problem with his bladder leaking. Called the vet and he said to cut the dosage in half and not give him water at night. There might be some pressure on his bladder due to the tumor, but shouldn't cause this problem. So that is what we will be doing.
Had him out this morning and he was doing great - trying to chase little critters, trotting ahead of us, and enjoying himself. So things are looking good for now.
We are fine. Will be leaving here Thurs, 8/11, headed South. Hate to leave this cool weather.

Made it to Big Bay
Lighthouse. It is now a bed & breakfast and they give tours on Wed and Sun. Needless to say we did not get a tour. But the grounds are beautiful. And the lake crashing into the rocks is a nice sound. It you want solitude this is the place to be. W-a-y off the beaten path for sure. Again the grounds are lovely as is the drive up there. We even saw a couple of deer along the way.
On the way there we stopped and went to the top of Sugarloaf "mountain". it is a large bald rock towering at the top of a cliff. When you (finally) get to the top, the view is amazing. Of course, we did have a fantastic day for it. 70 degrees, light wind, clear skies. It doesn't really sound like it, but it is quite a hike. If the county had not put in stairs, I probably could not have done it. As one lady said, I am not as sure-footed and agile as I used to be. In fact, I can't remember that I even used to be! We even wore out poor TD. He was dragging and super glad to see that water bowl when we got back to the truck. I was super glad to see my cold tea!
During the day we met a couple from Knoxville - Rocky hill, Wallace Rd. area, a couple that spent lots of time in the Smokies and a couple of men from Nashville. All trying to get out of the heat wave.
After the climb and then driving on up to Big Bay, we were ready to eat, but had seen no restaurants. Thinking about stopping at the general store and seeing if we could pick up sandwiches. However, TM missed a turn when we left the lighthouse and we made a circle back to 550. Well, there was a very nice restaurant! Went in and had a good meal.
Got home around 4 and all 3 of us collapsed.
Good night and God Bless

Still U.P. here
About that ride across 510 - the really unusual thing (to us) is that we did not see any wildlife. Not so much as a squirrel. Maybe if TD had been with us he would have spotted one. Still the scenery is wonderful.
We went into Musining, about 35 miles and saw Musining Falls. Very pretty waterfall and a paved trail leading to it. There were stairs to take to the top of the fall. There used to be a trail behind the fall, but due to rock fall it has been closed. TD got to go with us and he enjoyed it a lot. Especially when kids stopped to pet him.
After that we went to Miners Castle. It is an overlook where you can see part of Pictured Rocks that are shaped like castle turrets. TD was with us on that one too. Couple of dogs he really wanted to play with, but just wasn't going to happen. Too many people about. Didn't get many pics there due to the fog on the lake.
We stopped at the Bear Trap for lunch (around 3). TM had a pasty (pass-ty) and said it was really good. I had a Wisconsin burger with cheese. What is a Wisconsin burger? It is a bratwurst patty with cheese and onions on a bun. Very good. TM helped eat the french fries.
A group of motor cyclists came in just before we left. Several of them sat on the porch to rest and of course TM had to talk with them. And he had to get TD out of the truck. Even more attention for the pup!
We had thought to back to Miners Beach, but stopping for lunch made us realize we were ready to head home. So we did.
Last Wed was a hot day, around 90. The church building does not have air conditioning so we met in the basement. Much cooler and we had fans going.
Sunday was the congregational picnic. By the time we ran home to let TD out and then got back to the park, they were just sitting down to eat. Good timing, didn't have to do any of the work. The food was fine and it was a good opportunity to get to know some of the people better. Stayed cloudy and a little chilly until time to leave and then the sun came out. Oh, it was interesting how many people stopped to listen and enjoy our singing after lunch.
That's about it. God Bless

U.P.here 2
What a ride! Started out for Big Bay Lighthouse and decided to see some waterfalls along the way. We got a map from the welcome center. Understand that these waterfalls are not marked - no signs of any kind. The map gives you (approximate) directions. So we missed the 1st one. Probably thought the road was a driveway. We got to County Rd 510, a dirt road well packed, no problem. Found the stop for the 1st waterfall on that road because there were several cars there. In fact there was a group of young people camping. We started the 7/10 of a mile hike. The trail split and again no signs to tell you which way, so we went left. Not right, there was still a trail; but it was narrow. We were right on the river (Yellow Dog River) though. As we approached the falls, we saw a lady just sitting on the side of the trail. Seems she had slipped and twisted her knee, but her husband was still fishing. He is a doctor and could tell it wasn't broken. After TM went down to the falls - I was leery of the rocks and did not go - the doctor came with him. We said we would stay with them as they hiked out, but he decided to fish some more so we went on. They were from Mobile AL. As I said I did not see the actual falls, but the cascade was really pretty so I don't think I missed too much.
Back on the scooter looking for Little Falls. Found the parking area even though there was no one else there. The falls were only about 200 feet, which is a good thing because I am not used to hiking. The cascade and falls were so pretty. No big adventures there. Well, it was a little tricky climbing back up to the road.
We decided to go on out 510 rather than go back the 8 miles where we turned off 550 and then 20 miles back to Marquette. The road did not hold up so well! Plus there were logging trucks with huge loads. We would pull over so not to slow them down, but then had to endure the dust. We were doing ok despite the bumps until we came to the part that had lots of gravel. Makes it more of a challenge, but TM is so good at this. Once we reached highway 41, we stopped to grab a bite to eat since it was 3:30 and we had not had anything since breakfast at 9. Then home to let poor TD out. He was fine and glad to see us.
Oh, the Big Bay Lighthouse? We will try another day.

U.P. here
Looks like the truck may finally be fixed. Took 4 trips to the dealer, but it has now been a week and no "check engine" light. yipee. (makes TM easier to be around)
Haven't been super busy. Went to downtown Marquette to look around. We haven't actually been to the port yet, but we saw the Yacht Club (oh hum). The downtown is doing ok, not many closed shops at all. We ate at Donekers and the food was really good - and plentiful. They are also a candy shop. The bear claws (turtles) are scrumptious, but the fudge leaves something to be desired. It isn't bad, just not southern fudge.
We went to the Independence day parade and it was fun. Started out with people handing out little flags to wave, then there was all the candy that was thrown to the kids. They had some nice floats. Only one band, Marquette Senior High School, but there was the football team and the soccer team and the volleyball team. Nice weather for it too.
We took a ride up to Copper Harbor, MI and Fort Wilkins State Park. TD got to go this time and he enjoyed it. Had a bunch of kiddos surround him and pet, pet, pet. He is such a good boy. Anyway the area is beautiful. It is about a 3 hr. drive from here and the terrain is so different. We then came back by Eagle Harbor and the lighthouse museum there. Really fascinating and they have an old light with Frennell lenses. Also there is a "new" 1927 Chrysler there. Seems in 1926 a ship carrying 220 of these cars foundered at the harbor and was going down. They were able to save all the cars and kept one in Eagle Harbor. The rest were driven back to Detroit and refurbished and sold once again as new. Anybody willing to drive one was paid $5.00. Not $5.00 per day - $5.00 for the job. Lot of money in those days.
We had no cell service in Copper Harbor, but Eagle Harbor was fine.
All for now. God Bless

Sunshine!
After a week of rainy, cold, grey weather - enough to give a "right jolly old elf" depression - the sun arrived in the UP.
Saturday was a beautiful day and we spend much of it outside. Mostly around the campground. Around 3:30 we went to the races. TM found on the internet there were, I think, stock car races nearby, so off we went. After missing the sign the first time by, we found it the second time. We were surprised that it didn't turn out to be a dirt road, way out in the fields. Of course all the parking was dirt. The track itself is paved, but no such luck for anyone else. We had taken some chairs just in case, but there was plenty of seating in the bleachers. Yeah, right. After just a short time of the sun beating down on us, we were over it. At least TD and I were. The poor pup was really hot so I took him over to the shade trees. He was much happier in just a few minutes. Shortly thereafter, TM decided he should try the shade. Yep he liked it, so he went to the truck and got our chairs. Made everything more enjoyable. Next time, however we will take a cooler!
Church service on Sunday was really good. Really like this preacher. We had gone Wed. night also. As we were leaving a couple of the men went to shake my hand, but I ignored them. Told them I am a hugger and got some nice hugs. Really great group of people. The congregation was started when KI Sawyer AFB was here. When it closed in the '90s, cut the congregation by at least half. It is wonderful that they are still thriving. Not a large crowd, but doing really good.
The preachers mother was severely injured in an auto wreck 2 or 3 weeks ago. She is now in rehab and is doing better than they expected by this time. If you are a praying person, please remember Anne Larson and family.
It was so pretty on Sunday the TM washed the trailer! Really, I would not lie about that. He didn't get to the truck, but, hey, it is a big trailer.
The truck goes to the dealer tomorrow. Yep, the "check engine" light is on again. Hope it is an easy (and inexpensive) fix. Otherwise all is well.
God Bless.

U.P.
We are set up at Gitchegumme for our month near Marquette, MI. Campground did not quite live up to the internet pics, but isn't too bad. Our closest neighbors happen to be from Clarksville, Tn and have been full-timing for about a year. Nice folks.
We left St. Ignace under partly cloudy skies with predictions of rain by the time we arrived here. Happily we did not get rain. As we got closer to the campground on the shores of Lake Superior there was fog rolling in. Was really pretty.
The campsite we were to get was really too small for our trailer, so we opted for another one without a view of the lake. This site is more per month than the other, think there is something fishy?
We have the satillite set up, the scooter out of the hauler, and TM's "man cave" set up. Have already done some rearranging of the cabinets and getting things more the way we want them.
This afternoon we walked across road to the lake. It was about 63 degrees and we both had on jackets. However there were people on the beach wearing just their swimsuits. Maybe us Southerners are just wusses, but I think we are just smarter.
Traveling Dog seems to be settling in and enjoying all the new stuff.

Mackinac
Here we are in the Straits State Park, St. Ignace, MI. A beautiful park, but fairly empty right now - midweek. We arrived here on Monday. Tuesday we went to Mackinac Island.
Was such a great trip! We didn't get up too early since we wanted to catch the 10a ferry. We arrived at the slip around 9:15 since we had to pick up our tickets. (We saved $28 by ordering on-line.) Roamed around in the gift shop for a bit and then overheard the clerks talking about Ooltewah, TN. Can you believe it? You are just never far from home.
The ferry was not crowded and was a smooth ride. Their season up here doesn't really start til around July 1. That was fine with us since we don't much like fighting the crowds. That also meant the island was not crowded and we could stroll and enjoy the scenery.
In case you don't know, Mackinac does not allow autos; all travel is done by horse or bicycle. Hundreds of bicycles for rent. Also you can rent horses. Unless you ask (and pay) for a guide, they just give you a map and let you go. Pretty cool. Saw more people renting more bikes than horses though. And, yes Apryl, they have tandem bikes for rent.
Since we had bought a package, we took a carriage tour. Saw historical sites, the horse barn and the carriage museum on the 1st part of the tour. The carriage held 24 people - 6 rows of 4 - and it was full At the museum, we changed to a larger carriage which was not crowded. In fact we had a bench for 5 to ourselves. This took us thru the woods to Arch Rock and Fort Mackinac. At the fort, we left the carriage to tour the fort. The fort was built by the British in 1780 and all buildings are original. It is quite large. We spent a few minutes talking with one of the "soldiers" and learning more about the place. Then we went on the "People of Mackinac" tour. The time period is 1880's when there was peace in the nation and the area had become a summer resort area. Each of the 7 "soldiers" gave us a bit of what it was like to live in the fort at that time. There was a woman who portrayed an officer's wife and told us what a great duty station that was. In 1875 Mackinac became a national park as well as an army base. Pretty easy duty and probably sort of fun. When the fort closed in 1895 the land was given to the state of Michigan and became (still is) a state park.
By the time we finished all of this, it was time for lunch. We ate at the Pink Pony and had a table outside overlooking the port. It was so beautiful and relaxing.
It was a great day and the weather was absolutely perfect for our time there.

Back on the road
Truck all fixed! Got it back late Monday. We spent an extra day in Dayton; not only to have more time to get all things ready, but we went to visit the Packard museum. Really interesting and we enjoyed our time a lot.
Wed. we left for Linden, MI and the Hideaway campground. Our friends from FL, the Clarks, are there and we were looking forward to a visit with them. After traveling out to the middle of where ever on dirt roads, we found them! Some of the dirt roads were better than the paved, potholed roads. We got down to the registration for the campground and Chet was right there to meet us. We should have stayed up on the hill instead of driving on down to registration. Traveling Man, of course, did a great job of getting turned around and headed back up the hill. Chet gave him some guidance, but everyone was impressed.
Chet and Rosemary had BLT sandwiches for us for supper and they were so good. Been a while since had had a BLT. Then later we had banana splits (of course my was sans the banana). Went home around 9:30 with full bellies. Anyway while we were chatting I mentioned having a black cherry smoothie at Panera. Rosemary had seen a Panera but didn't know what they had. Poor Rosemary, so deprived. Want to guess where we went to lunch the next day? Yummy! They got a Mypanera card and now Rosemary has a free smoothie waiting on her next time she goes. Wonder what Chet gets?
We had fun playing Yatzee that evening. Something more we had not done in a while. Need to do that more often. Such a great visit with friends, we enjoyed them so much.
Friday morning we were off to Standish in the rain. No big hurry for us since we were only going around 100 miles. It was not actually raining when we got here, but we had barely gotten set up when the rain started. It was a really raw afternoon. This is a really nice campground and we got a good site.
It has been a good week. Hope yours was.
God bless

God bless

Rolling again
We said good-by to Apryl and Jeremy on Monday night, as we knew we might not see them on Tuesday.
Tuesday morning while TM went to get tires on the truck, I did the last minute cleaning up and packing. I got nearly everything together and put it in the garage for TM when he came home. He was gone all morning because they had to wait on FedEx to deliver 2 of the tires. Basically he got home just as I left to go to lunch.
Had a wonderful lunch at Copper Cellar with my good friend. Copper Cellar now has a smaller version of their wonderful strawberry shortcake; which is good since we don't have to stuff ourselves so much. (not that we would overeat). Received some great birthday presents. Thank you so much Brenda.
TM was leaving the house on the scooter just as I arrived back (I was driving the suburban). He had packed nearly everything in the truck so that I could just grab Traveling Dog and be on my way. Since the suburban has no a/c, I did take a little time to cool off before being on my way.
Our friends Patti and David were to come by the trailer when I got done with lunch. I called them about noon and asked it they would mind waiting until around 5p and then we would go to supper. So glad they agreed, as we had a lot to do. Had a good time with them.
TM's sister and family came by about 7:45 to check out our new living quarters. We had a good visit with them too.
Wednesday morning we were up at 7:30 to finish up. Our friends, Doug and Glo, came by around 9a and we had a good visit with them even as we were finishing hitching up. We actually did get out at our target time- 9:30.
The trip was uneventful and we arrived at Wright Patterson AFB around 4p. Setup went well and we are comfy here at site 13.
Thursday we went to the BX and commissary. While we were driving there the "check engine" light came on in the truck. Had it at the dealers 1st thing Friday morning. They called us shortly after noon to say they had reset the computer since they could not duplicate the problem. When we picked it up, I was driving to Walgreens while TM went home on the scooter. I had barely left the dealers when the light was on again. Called TM and managed to get him before he got on the scooter to head home. Took the truck back to the dealer. we were there about an hour before they came to tell us that the turbo is bad. (don't ask, I don't know). They have one in stock (most unusual), but can't have the truck ready until sometime Monday. Oh well, can't change it so roll with it. Glad it happened when it did rather than us in the middle of wherever and no place to camp.
We plan on leaving here Tues. morning if all continues to go well.
God bless.

My birthday
was Sunday (May 29) and I had a delightful day. We went to church services at Laurel where we were able to see a number of friends. Then we ate at Panera, came back to Apryl's to change clothes, and went to the trailer. Figured we needed to shift some more stuff. Not sure that we are being really productive, but we are moving stuff around a lot. The "garage" is ready for the scooter, but TM loses access to his computer once the scooter is in. Guess what will be the last thing packed.
We came back to Apryl's and had lasagna for supper. Then Jeremy and Apryl fixed a wonderful dessert for us. It was all I could to not to ask for seconds!
Today has been a little slower. Glad for the holiday that I could spend more time with Apryl. We did some shopping - I got a pair of Sketchers for $20.00! They were on 1/2 price and I got another discount for presenting my military ID.
Now we are getting ready to grill steaks for supper. Yum! Got a caramel apple pie from Perkins-I had a coupon. more yum!
Tuesday starts the serious work getting the odds and ends stashed away so that nothing decides to fly while we are traveling down the road.
Thanks for reading. God Bless

Still keeping busy
But I think we have it about ready to travel. Not organized - but things arranged so we can quickly close up and travel. TM got the tie-downs fixed (one had broken), with Jeremy's help. So it looks like the scooter will travel ok.
Saturday night we saw our nephew, Brandon, graduate from Farragut HS. Then went out to eat with them. He seemed genuinely happy that we came. Also knew 2 other graduates, so that was neat to see.
Sunday we were able to go to Rogersville and visit with Uncle Bill and Aunt Jean and Monte and Joan. Bill and Jean seem to be doing well, especially considering they are 90 and 91. So glad they do not suffer from dementia or alzhiemers. Monte and Joan are so good with them, even tho I know that some days must get very wearing. Kudos to you two.
Made time on Tuesday to have dinner with friends Liz and Nita. Brenda was unable to join us after all. Planning to see her again before we leave tho. Then today I was able to see Pam for lunch. She looks good and seems to feel pretty good. So glad to see that.
Had lunch with our friends, Doug and Glo and their granddaughter yesterday. Went to Ruby Tuesdays so I could get my free birthday hamburger. Wasn't going to miss that. If you go, the Boston Bleu is wonderful. Not to mention the yummy red velvet cupcake.
Since you don't want a moment-by-moment description of us working on the trailer, guess there isn't a whole lot to say. We are still deciding where to put some things, but as I said things will evolve into the place they fit best.

Overdue Update
I know I am way behind, but have totally been busy. Our estimate on the trailer was reasonable, except that they said all the wiring was good. We talked it over and felt that we really did not trust that wiring. Later found out that the service manager who wrote the estimate said the same thing about not trusting the wiring. Since we had found a trailer we really liked, we took the plunge and traded.
What we have now is an Excel Wild Cargo. It is a 39' toy hauler. In a toy hauler the entire back opens and becomes a ramp - meaning we can put the motor scooter inside when we are traveling. When we are parked, we can take it out and the room becomes living space.
The bedroom is small, but functional. The bed is queen size, just like what we had. The washer/dryer is in a closet in the bedroom We had planned to move the washer/dryer from the old trailer; but it seems they just couldn't squeeze it in. Something trivial like it being 2" too tall for the space. So we have purchased a new washer and drier. The nice thing is these are 2 separate units and can be operated simultaneously. The old stackables were one unit and you only operated one or the other.
We have an actual bathroom! No more sink next to the bed. Also, a good deal of storage space in that room. The fixtures are black which should be a ball to keep clean.
Lost a lot of storage space in the kitchen, but gained a large pantry to make up for it. The counter top and sinks are black with silver flecks. Really quite pretty (when shined up). The dining area is a lot different, as there is a fold-down table, but room for the computer. The living room has a corner couch, part of which is a hide-a-bed. The refrigerator actually sits next to the couch across from the kitchen.
There are 3 slides - the bedroom, the living room and the kitchen/dining area. One nice thing is that the entire kitchen is accessible when the slides are closed - as is the bathroom. There are french doors that separate the "living area" from the "garage". Traveling man is already turning that into a man cave, but he may find himself making room for my hobby too.
Oh, and when you open up the back, you can leave the ramp down and pull down a screen; making that a really nice, airy room.
This trailer has 3 axles as opposed to our 2 so we had to buy another tire. We had them change the factory tires for the Michilens (sp?) that were almost new on our trailer.
Time to rest. More later (hopefully not too much later).

Progress!
We drove to Greeneville yesterday to check on the trailer since we had heard nothing from them. The technician who had been checking it out was not in, so we really didn't get any information. We did take the time to look at some new trailers. They were ok, but not really what we are looking for. Of course, we do not know if we will be buying at all.
We went to see Uncle Jack and Aunt Sarah in Camp Creek. They were doing fine. They have electricity, but no cable or phones yet. It was nice to visit with them.
This afternoon we received a call from Allstate to let us know that they had approved the replacement of the inverter so that wiring damage can be assessed. They expect an estimate by Friday and will have an adjuster there on Monday. TM will be going up on Monday hoping to be there when the adjuster is. Do not have any idea what to expect. Worst case - they will total it. Best case - easy and quick fix. Don't even know which to ask for!
We do have reservations at a rally beginning 5/10 and have no idea if we will get to go. Guess it won't be the end of the world if we have to miss it. We have already missed one in NC. Expecting a refund from them in a week or so.
Guess that is about it for now.

Tennessee bound
Actually all done. We did have a good trip. Spent a couple of days near St. Marys GA. Funny thing, TM and I were a the waterfront park and TM was wearing his shirt from Natchez Trace, Howenwald, TN. A man in a pick-up stopped us to say his family is from Howenwald. Small world. We also attended the Woodbine Opry (again) and enjoyed it.
From there we went to Lake Wateree in SC. Stayed at the Shaw AFB recreation area there. A really nice place. We also enjoyed riding around the area and viewing some of the historical places. We really like to do that and always learn something.
We made it to Knoxville on Tues and I was on the phone to the allergy clinic. Allergies and asthma decided to have "fun" with me. I got some meds and have been some better. Seems to have been a bad year here in East TN for people with allergies and asthma.
Wednesday night the weather was awful. Heavy rains and tornado watches and hail. We were in an area that did not get much of it, but other parts of Knox Co. really got slammed. Apryl and Jeremy have car damage and possible roof damage. Plus it beat up her flowers pretty badly. But we are all safe and well and that is what counts.
On Thursday took the trailer up to the shop to get an estimate. So we are living at Apryl and Jeremy's.
In Camp Creek in Greene Co. where TM is from storms and tornadoes did a lot of damage. Houses have been flattened and trailer homes just gone. 6 people were killed there. The worst of it did not hit the home place or where relatives are living, so we are grateful for that.

Lightning Update
Well, the people at Allstate are becoming old friends. We just keep finding stuff. No adjuster has been out. Seems they don't have a database for this type of claim, i.e. they don't know what they are doing, so asked us to get an estimate and fax to them. We had a man come on Friday who, presumably, does this for a living. What a waste of time. TM wasn't home when he came so I was telling him what we had found. He sort of brushed me off, especially about the wiring; but I just figured, oh, well, I am a woman after all, what do I know? Well, he was much the same way with TM when he got home. I mean this guy barely looked at anything except the thermostat and the a/c fan. He did not leave either of us feeling confident about what sort of job he might do.
Thus, we have decided to take the trailer to TN and put it in the shop while we stay with Apryl. (Hope TM has told her that.) See what develops.
TM got up on the roof and, guess what, looks like some lightning actually hit our antenna. No wonder everything in that slide is fried. We are most likely blessed that there was no fire.
As far as the contents the trailer, we have been told to replace the TV, amplifier, computer, etc. and send the receipts to Allstate. They will most likely pro-rate and then pay us. At least that's what we are told. The poor lady that I talked to initially kept trying to tell me that stuff would be on my homeowners policy. I told her I was sitting there looking at the policy on the trailer and it specifically said "Contents covered up to $$$". She was confused and finally said she would talk with her manager and see what they could do. TM was on the phone to our agent asap, and within 10 minutes we had a call from the claim center.
Sure will be glad when this is all finished. Still 10 more days til we leave here and it has been hot, hot, hot! Hardly anyone left here in the park, either.
That's the update. We are doing fine and things are calming down somewhat.

Stormy Weather
After 3 weeks without a drop of rain, most people were glad to see some headed our way. Monday it rained all day long, starting around 4am. Quite the grey day Since Traveling Dog does not like to go out in the rain, he waited as long as he could before dancing up to TM for a walk. Poor baby. Tuesday was somewhat better, but still a grey day. Wednesday was better still - so much so that we were able to take the scooter to church that night. Thursday was the day! Fierce storms traveling 65 mph with 70-75mph winds. Weather channel showed it going South of us, so we were not too worried. Then suddenly there it was! Sideways rain, a smattering of hail and destructive winds. This little trailer was rocking! Thank goodness it wasn't rolling. A clap of thunder and lightening to make all 3 of us jump. TD was a bit nervous and wanted to be as close as he could to us. When that all passed (which didn't take long), another cell was shown to be coming. We decided to go to the clubhouse and wait that one out. We were there about 2 hrs and that cell did happen to go South of us. We came home and turned on the TV to catch the news all about the storm. OOps, no TV, no stereo, no desktop computer, no a/c. Seems that lightening that shook us actually did hit right in front of our trailer, our neighbor saw it. The next day we found the inverter was out also, along with our electric meter.
I was quickly on the phone to Allstate. Should have an adjuster out sometime within the week. Say what? Of course they were slammed with calls. Places around us were heavily damaged. At least we can still live in the trailer. Thank goodness TM had the 2nd a/c installed in the bedroom. With the addition of a fan, we are able to keep the place cool enough. Anyway, the lady at the claim center had never processed a claim of this type and she was busy putting me on hold to research. She kept apologizing, but I told her to stop since I appreciated that she was just trying to do her job right and it was to my benefit. It did get kind of funny at times, as she would say something and then have to backtrack when she remembered this was an RV, not an auto. She was so nice.
TM went to get the scooter out and the battery was dead. This did not make him happy, as it should not have been dead. He got it charged up only to find that the turn signals and all the gauges did not work. The scooter had been parked under the bedroom overhang and evidently got a little jolt from that lightening. Oh goody, one more thing to add. Allstate is gonna love us.
Since Thursday we have had beautiful weather, but this week is supposed to be really hot. A couple of people from church have offered us a place to stay if we aren't able to keep the trailer cool enough. So nice of them and we are really appreciative.
Well, if you have made it this far, you have now got the main idea of the havoc that was wrought in just a few minutes one day. Hope not to see another one! God has blessed us mightily and we are so thankful. He is worthy of praise, honor and glory.

Quilts
Over the winter ladies here at Peace Creek have made quilted lap robes for charity. Nothing fancy, but pretty and useful. The project has been fun and done with love.
On Monday we delivered these to the Russell Home for Atypical Children. This home has been in operation for over 60 years with no government support. Donations of money and supplies have kept them going. It was started when a Policeman came to Mrs. Russell's door and asked her if she would keep a baby that had been abandoned due to its atypical condition. She took this baby in and it just grew from there. The original home, Mrs. Russell's home, has been expanded over the years to accommodate the growing "family" There are now 28 "children" there.
This is one of those places where you see the sad condition of the child, but also the loving care that is being given. We were first taken to a room that had some large cribs and some single beds. The first bed held a child that looked to be about 7 yrs old, judging by her size. She was not in a fetal posture, but certainly had muscles that had atrophied and was unable to care for herself. Were we stunned to learn that she is nearly 60 yrs old and has been at Russell Home her entire life! The next was much the same - she was born deaf, blind and mute, but they think she actually can hear. Another was able to sit up in a wheelchair when placed there, but she too had atrophied muscles. Again, all of these were over 50 years of age.
There are some children with Down Syndrome and others are autistic or mildly retarded (is that politically correct?). Several were at school while we were there.
All the "children" are adults whether they look like it or not, but none are able to be out in an adult world. Most have never seen their parents, as they were given up for care at birth. There are a few parents who are involved in their children's lives and active at the home.
As I said, this home was started by one woman who died in 2003. Her children and grandchildren now keep the place going. There are 26 employees and most of them are family. So you can see this place is run with love and caring.
There is also a tea room for private parties by reservation only. It only has seating for 12. Very Victorian and cozy, and the menu sounded absolutely scrumptious. I would love to have tea there sometime! There is no cost - it is strictly donations! How incredible is that?! They have never lost money on a tea, whether it was for 2 or 12.
They do take the children for outings to the zoo, etc. Orlando Magic Basketball players have visited the home and thrilled the children. There have even been tickets donated.
We left there somewhat sobered, but also heartened that these "children" are well cared for and loved.
Count your blessings and thank God for people such as this.

Rushing
The weeks are just rushing by. Can hardly believe it is March and March is already 6 days old! Of course I have been doing a lot of sitting and napping. But I did walk with Pauline on Wed. and Fri. Doing my exercises every day. If the pain would just end! I think I am doing fine and next thing I know I need pain pills because I can't get comfortable. It either sneaks up on me or I am trying to ignore it as long as I can.
Saw the new therapist on Tuesday. He is quite nice. He massaged my knee and kept pushing it down, as my extension is not good enough. The massage felt good, the pushing did not. He had me on the stationary bike, the weight machine and something else (?). This Tues I will probably be using the hydro-tread, an underwater treadmill. And, no, my head will not be underwater.
Wed. we went to Clermont for lunch and had a great time. Had to eat and run so TM could get his lesson ready. This was his last night to teach so next week we can stay later and see Amanda after school.
Thurs. was the Escapees luncheon meeting. Had a great time. They have a rally the end of the month, but we can't go. Seems the campground has a 40 lb. limit on dog size. Don't think we want TD that skinny!
Saturday was the campground ham and bean supper. Yum - white beans! Our friend, Manuel had given us a head of cabbage from his garden, so made coleslaw. Had a large mixing bowl full of coleslaw and it was all eaten. I will have to say it was really good.
Today at church we had another preacher candidate. Did not care for him much as his delivery is pretty bland. Did not meet him and his wife personally, but I am sure they are fine people, just not a good fit for Central.
Pot luck was wonderful. Glad so many like my cheese grits since they are so easy to make.
That's it for now. God Bless

Roller Coaster
Weekend. Friday was pretty good. We went to The Red Lion Pub for supper. Got seated right away, but our waitress was tied up with a party of 10, so we waited about 10 minutes to have our order taken. Luckily we had our iced tea and really didn't mind waiting. We got our order in ahead of the large party and it was delivered quickly. Glad for that as we were both hungry by then. Their liver and onions tasted delicious. Cooked just right, also. No room for dessert, even though I had left part of my meat for Traveling dog.
Saturday was a bit of a blah day, I had to have a little pity party. TM pretty much forgot about pinochle until they called him around 7:05p and then he was out the door. Didn't bother me, I had a good book. It was also an opportunity for me to do a thing or 2 on my own - like take my shower and do my hair. I survived just fine.
I am walking around the house without using the cane now. I mean, after all, we live in a small space and I can't go anywhere that I can't hold on to something. Although I feel confident, I am still taking the cane when I leave the house.
Sunday we had another preacher candidate and his family in. Nice people and it was good to meet another of my on-line friends. Finger foods and ice cream after evening services.
Today, 4 weeks after surgery, I decided it was time to start walking again. Pauline and I walked for about 30 minutes, which is not as big a deal as it sounds since it was slow walking. By the end of that time, I had pretty much had it. I had taken tylenol instead of prescription pain killers - huge mistake. Not weaning time yet. Later in the day, I went back to the script. I took one and about an hour later took another since one just was not doing the job. Once I got the pain under control things went much better. But I still wasn't up to going grocery shopping.
Let me tell you that my husband is one of the greatest guys ever! He has been a brick and not complained thru this whole thing. I have been treated like a true VIP.
Guess that is about it for now.

Torture continues
Yep, he was here on Wed. and made me suffer. We are working on extension since I remained 3 to 5 degrees off. Wed. we did manage to get it to 1 degree and he says that is good enough. He will be back tomorrow to see if I have maintained it. Ouch!
That left me to do all my therapy exercises on my own. Due to time constrains I did the standing and sitting sets all together. Talk about exhasting.
Next week have an appt. with the outpatient therapist that Tony has recommended. Supposed to be working on strength and stamina. Looking forward to trying out the aqua treadmill.
Monday we had lunch with our preacher candidate and his wife. Managed to make it last 2 hours (as if that was a problem) and really enjoyed being with them. They sure did hate to go back to Michigan after their weekend here. Enjoyed his preaching also. But we have 3 more candidates to hear. The next one is coming this weekend. His wife is known to me thru an on-line group and I am looking forward to meeting her (and him) in person.
Today was Mellan's birthday and we had lunch with her and Richard, Rita and Mike. Also had their granddaughter and friend there. We had such a nice time. We went to Santa Fe Cattle Company and enjoyed the food. I am so glad we are able to celebrate her birthday together
Tonight was potluck at the campground. TM enjoyed it, as always. I did not go as I was feeling a little tired and had some pain. He brought me a plate of food home. Such a sweetie. Didn't get to see the lift-off from the cape because of cloud cover. Have already seen pics on facebook though.
That's it for now.

Perfectly clear
From my last post, let me make one thing clear, TM did not leave me when I was so sick. I urged him to go play cards and neither of us realized how my temp was going to spike nor how bad I would feel. Please, he has been taking wonderful care of me and would never have left the house if we had known then what we know now. I am so, so blessed to have him. I thank God daily for my traveling man.
That said, we will move on to torture. Tony (therapist) has been pushing me to do more reps of each exercise. I am ok at the beginning, but by the time I get 4 or 5 different ones done, I am spent. Those last couple are not only the hardest, but I am already in pain, etc. when I start. One is the flexation exercise and I did get to 120 degrees, which should be my goal, but it was not at all comfortable. Still can't get full extension, so I guess it is time to concentrate on that for a while.
Traveling dog is much happier now that we don't have the walker in the house. The cane doesn't bother him at all. At first he looked at it kind of funny, but I just walked around like it was natural, not teasing him with it or anything, and he settled right down. He does wish he could get closer to me. I am nested here in the corner and it is not easy for him to get close, and he certainly cannot lay down next to me.
I have been able to get back to my beads a bit - 45 minutes or so at a time. So many patterns and so little time. TD can get closer to me when I am at the table doing that work and he likes that.
1 week now I have stayed healthy, no little setbacks (like strep). Thank you, my God for your care. Thank you my friends for your prayer.

Believe it
So I haven't finished my hospital stay, etc. But willing to answer any questions you might have. The thing is I never really got to feeling good, just tolerable.
Then Saturday the big one hit. Can you believe strep throat? Sat. night was bad. Took my pain pills (which I needed anyway) and did some sleeping. TM went to play cards and I watched a short movie. Unable to concentrate on anything and with words blurring, I turned off the light and slept in my chair. And I mean I slept deep. Woke up thinking how late is he going to be? only to find it wasn't yet 10pm. TM got home about 10:15 and put me to bed. I did manage to sleep most of the night, but knew I was running a fever. Sunday morning was worse yet, could barely swallow and temp at 101. Called the doctors service and asked for antibiotics. The operator was a ditz for sure. I told her my story and then she asked what message I would like to leave. I said I just told you. Anyway I figured it was a lost cause and began looking for walk-in clinics open on Sun. Amazingly I did get a call back and was able to tell the PA what was happening. He was a bit skeptical until I mentioned the fever. Immediately he said he would call in the script. When Walgreens finally figured out they had received it, was able to pick it up before noon. Took all 4 doses between noon and 8pm. Around 11-11:30 my fever broke and I felt pretty human. It has been getting better daily as I continue to take the antibiotic.
Went in today and had my staples and stitches taken out and had an xray of my new knee. All went well and I have few restrictions now. Got to keep up the therapy probably 6 more weeks; but in-home therapy only another week. Then outpatient therapy. We just have to decide about finding a place here in town or going to Celebration 3 times a week. It would be more convenient to stay in the Winter Haven area, but Celebration has such a great facility.
Was able to go to class tonight, but came straight home as knee was starting to stiffen.

Another day
Actually, I think it was night. Around 4am the lights came on and I was given stuff so I could sponge bathe and brush my teeth. The CNA helped me dress and moved me to the recliner where I would wait for breakfast. Then someone woke me up to take my vitals. Then they woke me to take my blood (these folks are addicted to blood). By 5am I was left alone to wait for breakfast. Did I mention that I was awakened at 4am and they don't start delivering breakfast until 8am? Good thing I could sleep in that chair (I think the morphine helped).
Around 8am I was awake and hungry. They delivered my breakfast around 8:45! I do believe I was the first to be awakened and the last to be fed. The breakfast was actually good - eggs not overdone.
TM got there about 9am and I have already told you about my walk around the unit. Got back to the room and fell asleep again.
Mellan and Richard came by and visited for a while. Was so good to see them and sure appreciated them making the drive. Especially since they brought candy! Really, we had a nice chat. I do enjoy my sister -and her family.
Then it was group therapy - ugh. It wasn't so horrible, but I had the drugs in me. Also TM as my coach kept telling me I was doing great and just keep going. After that they "let" me walk around the unit again. Finally took me to my room and I had a chance to rest.
For supper I had barbeque chicken. Too bad they gave me the leg and thigh. Thighs I can take, but do not like legs. I ate it anyway, because hard as I try I cannot exist on candy alone.
There you have my exciting day.

The deed has been done
One week ago I had the knee replacement surgery and things are going pretty good.
We arrived at Celebration Hospital around 11:30a, almost right with Sheila. Went up to the surgical suite and let them know I was there. Wasn't 10 minutes before they took be back to get into a hospital gown and get my IV ports placed and, of course, take blood.
Then Sheila and TM came back to entertain me for a while. I kept telling them they did not have to stay; to go ahead and get lunch. You know I had not eaten since midnight, guess I just wanted someone to have a full tummy. Had people in and out telling me who they were - as if I was going to remember. Dr. Dore came by and we marked my knee so that he would do the correct one. Finally the anesthesiologist came in to give me my spinal. Yep, did a spinal block and then happy juice in the IV. I was out before we left the cubical for the OR. Next thing I knew someone was asking me how I felt. Groggy - duh! Sheila and TM came in for a few moments and then went to take my stuff to my room in the Joint Replacement Center. I was taken down about 1/2 hr. later.
Now, this is the point where I got sick after my gall bladder surgery, so I was a bit concerned. Everything went ok and we arrived just fine. I think they were going at a slower pace and I did not get dizzy. Sheila and TM stayed about another hour and then each went home. After all, I was not particularly good company.
My night nurse was Evelyn and she kept me nice and comfy with Vicodin and morphine. Druggyland was a great place to be that night!
Because of the spinal block I did not have immediate pain when I woke up, just gradual "feeling it again." The next morning the physical terrorist, uh, therapist came in (TM was already there) and said let's go for a walk. Oh yeah, that sounded fun. I just jumped right out of bed and asked if anyone wanted to race. Ha! Slow and easy the order of the morning. So here I go with my walker, TM, the PT and the aide who followed me with my recliner. When we got back to the room, they are like "she made it all the way around the unit!" And I'm like, "uh, isn't that what you said to do?" Seems one of the reasons they follow you with that recliner is that most people do not make it all the way around the first time. If they had told me that to start with, I would have been sitting in that chair being pushed real quick after we left the room. Next time, better ask more questions instead of obeying (what I thought were) orders.
More to come.

Tomorrow
is the day. A little apprehensive as I don't handle pain well, but expecting they will give me some good drugs. Sheila plans to be there with TM, so that will be good.
Saturday was our niece, Shari's, birthday. Had a nice dinner at Olive Garden plus cake back at Mellan and Richard's. It was good to see Rick as it doesn't happen often enough. I was pleased that Shari liked the earrings I made for her. My own design.
Also had Meaghan cut my hair. She took quite a bit off just like I told her. Looks good.
That's about it for now. About time to go to bed and have visions of sugarplums dance in my dreams. I am sure I will dream about food since I can't eat.
:) 2 beautiful Florida winter days
:) Bert's message this morning
:) having lunch and supper with good friends.

Who took it?
This week has just disappeared! Maybe we've been busy?
TM started physical therapy on his arm Monday. What fun. Actually, he said they were easier on him than he expected, but he didn't say that on Tuesday. We will see what Friday brings.
Tuesday morning we were over at Celebration for our intro to joint replacement. We were scheduled to have a tour of the unit, but that didn't happen for some reason. Guess most hospital rooms look alike. Much of what we were told is in the book they gave us, but the nurse did answer some questions we had. So I guess you would say it was informative and not too boring. We had to dash back home afterwards so TM could get to his therapy session. (There went my plans for lunch at Cheesecake Factory.)
Wednesday was pre-op stuff. Waited a full hour in the doctors office so I could be asked 2 questions and let someone listen to my heart. I don't think the PA spent 5 minutes with us. We were really thrilled about that. Never have had to wait very long in that office, so I didn't take my book in with me. Should have known I jinxed it. Will take my book from now on.
Then it was over to the hospital for pre-registration. Started out smoothly, but went downhill. Do you think they could come up with more paperwork!? Sure they can, just get some lawyers to make more rules. Argggg. Then to blood draws and interview with the nurse. The phlebotomist was quick and good (no bruise); but the nurse was very slow. She had trouble reading, therefore it took extra time. How do they get thru nursing school when they can't read? Scary, isn't it?
We were finally done and could go get some lunch. Needless to say we were very hungry. Stopped at Burger King on the way home. TM had to put the finishing touches on his lesson for that night so we did not have much extra time.
So - My knee replacement surgery is scheduled for Monday 1/31 @ 2p. I have to be there at noon and can't eat or drink anything after midnight. NOOOOO, don't do that to me! Ha, they don't care. Guess I will be eating a large snack at 11p Sunday night.
Wish me luck and pray for me. thank you.
God Bless.

Good Week
Would have said great, but TM was sick on Wed. so that gives it only a good rating. We missed being at the lectureship,
Tuesday we had a good conversation with one of the speakers, George Beals. We both liked the way he organized and presented his material, so it was great to be able to let him know and to learn more about him. He and his wife want to start doing some traveling and was asking us places we recommend, The first one out of my mouth was Crater Lake He was making notes. We were disappointed that Tues was the last day he would be there.
Thursday was a nice day. Several good speakers, but the best Melvin Otey from D.C. Actually found out he is orginally from St. Louis, but went to the D.C. area after law school. Again we were lucky enough to have him sit down with us at lunch time. You gotta like a guy that fills his plate with desserts and broccoli salad! Such a passionate young man. He has already told his sons they are going to a school of preaching after college. The boys are 5 and 2.
Mon and Tues we went home about 3:30, not staying for the evening session. But on Thursday our friend Dave Simons was a speaker and we stayed to hear and support him. He did a great job (but then we knew he would). Our friends from Winter Haven, Maryellen and Clara had come over to hear Dave speak and were planning to leave right after that. I encouraged them to stay and listen to Melvin and they were glad they did (thank goodness).
For years Tom Holland has been the final speaker at this lectureship, but he has begun cutting back on his traveling due to his age. Melvin is a worthy successor.
Now some TD stories. He liked going with us since he doesn't mind staying in the car. We had put his bed in there. Well, Tues. when we got home, he kept roaming around the house, so we put him outside where he spent some time laying in the sun. When I called him in, he took one step toward me and stopped. He looked at me, looked at the car, looked at me, looked at the car. Yep, he wanted his bed brought in and was not willing for me to forget it. Once I got the bed, he hurried in and laid right down. Thursday we bought him a can of food since we would not be home before 9p. Do you think he would eat it? Nooooo. I even tried hand feeding him. Clamped that mouth shut like a 2-yr-old. Brat. He ate hardily when we got home!
Friday was a down day. Since it rained all day could not hand out laundry, so both of us did basically nothing - except take naps.
Looking forward to being at worship services tomorrow. God Bless

He doesn't get on the computer, but surely some one will tell him.
Love you bunches, Bill!

New Week
That started with a beautiful, relaxing Sunday. Nathan preached and did a great job. I really enjoy his enthusiasm. There was a baby shower for his wife, but I was not able to go. After breakfast at Shack's with friends, we came home and relaxed some. TM decided he needed to drain the black water tank, so I did a load of laundry and hung it out. That is how nice the day was, laundry was dry by 5p.
Sunday evening Randy Judd spoke. He is a missionary in Malawi Africa. His dad was a missionary and took the family over when Randy was 9 yrs. old. Now Randy has taken over the work as his dad has Alzheimers. What a wonderful report of the work there. The Church is really growing and people are anxious to hear God's Word.
Today (Monday) we were all up early so we could be in Lakeland by 9a. Time again for the Florida School of Preaching Annual Lectureship. Yes, Nick goes with us. Of course he stays in the car until one of us comes to walk him. Today it was raining, so at least once he would not get out. He is such a good boy.
Most of the speakers today were quite interesting. The theme is "Do You Understand the Biblical Value of Women?" Studying the role of the women in Christ's lineage plus the misconceptions of "being in subjection".
The lunch today was spagetti and meatballs. I only mention that because I have been wanting that for about a week and this was really good. Satisfied my craving.
Love God and love yourself. God bless.

Very tired
is what the 3 of us were on Friday night. I took my walk that morning and TM did the men's coffee and then we left for Tampa. The fairgrounds there is only a 1hr. 10min. drive. HUGE RV show going on. We went specifically to see our cousin Lisa. She had come from TN (and glad to leave the snow behind) to work the show for Excel trailers. Had not seen her in a while and she looked good. She was having fun. Got some really nice trailers too. Believe it or not, I didn't really like the most expensive one they had, but the one I liked was expensive enough.
Had a nice visit with Lisa and then took in the show. Hundreds of trailers and vendors there. Some pretty nice stuff. When I said fairgrounds, you knew it was spread out plus walking the rows of vendors in the buildings. Even poor old TD was dragging. But he was still happier being with us than sitting in the car. The fact that lots and lots of people stopped to pet him and tell him what a good dog kinda kept his spirits up. We stopped to say goodby to Lisa and headed out.
We got back home around 4:30 and collapsed. My knee was really swollen and sore so I put ice on it. And, yes I did wear my brace. Just too much time on my feet. Even TM didn't want to go play bingo.
This morning all 3 of us slept late. In fact TM and I were up before TD. Believe it, it is true. Got up round about 8:30 - 9:00 and got to Denny's around 10:30 for breakfast. Afterwards we went to the flea market and walked around, but not very long before heading home. Got some stuff done around the place off and on between sitting and reading.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend. God bless.

Knee scheduled
for replacement surgery Jan. 31. Finally the surgeon got all they needed to clear me. Got a call Tuesday giving me date. Then another call 2 hrs later giving me more details, e.g. pre-op appt. She asked if I wanted to donate my own blood in case I should have lots of blood loss. TM and I had discussed this and I told her yes. She said she would write the order and fax it to the blood center in Winter Haven, and that I should do it this week. Twenty minutes later I had a call from the blood bank. She wanted to schedule me for the 19th. When I told her I had been told to do it this week, she mumbled something about 10 days prior to surgery being good enough. I told her again it needed to be this week. She scheduled me for 11a on Thursday. Which worked out fine since I had to see the audiologist at 10a.
TM went on Wed. to his surgeon and got his stitches out. Everything looks good. They wrote him an order for therapy, but said it was up to him if he wants to go. If TM feels that he is doing good on his own, have at it. He is steady working on it.
Today, I went to the blood bank and did fine. Until about 3:30p when I took the bandage off and started bleeding pretty good. Got some gauze and tape on it now. Have a really nice bruise, but not as nice as some I have had.
Since I haven't mentioned him lately, Traveling Dog is doing just fine. He generally get TM up between 6:30a & 7:30a. Sometimes on Saturday, he sleeps til after 8a. But then so do we.
God Bless

Scope it out
So TM had a gastro-scope today (I don't really know what they call it, but you get the idea), He came thru fine, just a bit of coughing and hacking (no hairballs) afterwards. Doc says he has too much bile in his stomach from not having a gall bladder. He is to stay away from fried and fatty food and take the meds she prescribed. Then it was pretty much straight to Denny's for breakfast - including bacon (is that fried or fatty?). He has had no trouble tolerating it, so no worries. We are just glad it is over with.
That constituted the excitement for the day. We did get home in time to get the clothes off the line before the rain started. Got a nice rain this afternoon.
Played Bingo tonight, but didn't manage to win anything. Ah well, think I will let him play poker Thursday anyway.
Got a call this morning that my doc's office was faxing my medical clearance to the surgeon. Maybe I will get that knee replacement. Will call surgeon's office first thing in the morning and find out the status.
It is good to be in Florida with my honey and our dog. God is good all the time.
God bless.

Sad news
Early Saturday morning, my cousin died. Kim Marie Archibald Fowler was only 53 years old. She had been ill for several years and died of a heart attack. She leaves her daughter, Shelby Fowler, and her 2 brothers and their families. Also a slew of cousins who all loved her.

The last few days
have been pretty nice. Thursday morning there was a hard rain. TD did not even want to go out until he heard it stop. Poor baby. We went to our Chapter 27 Escapees meeting and, as usual, had a really good time. It is good to be with these funloving and caring people. We got signed up for the February rally and have our registration sheet to send in for the April Eastern Chapters Rally. Both should be a good time.
TM went and played poker that night. Didn't win, but enjoyed himself.
Friday, we met the former preacher and his wife for breakfast at Bob Evans. So good to have a chance to visit with them. Plus the meal was good.
In the afternoon, I went to the ladies social/craft time. Started to work on my Swedish weaving, but wound up cutting quilt squares. That night neither of us went to bingo - just lazy, I guess.
Thursday did not do the morning walk because of the rain. Walked Friday morning with Pauline and Mary. Mary just got in from snow country and hopes to be able to walk with us daily. Enjoyed the walk even if I did have to cut it short to go to breakfast.
TM is continuing to do well with his recovery.
God Bless

Today
we went to Clermont and had lunch at Red Lobster with Mellan, Richard, Rita and Mike. Good food and good company. We then went to Mellan's and TM fixed her problem with gmail. The time just raced by too fast.
Made a stop at Michael's on the way in. I spent nearly $20 on beading, but all except one item were on sale. And I had a coupon for that item. I did good!!! Can hardly wait to make the necklace I got beads for. So many projects I want to do and so little time. Arrgh.
TM still doing good with the arm. He only occasionally makes a wrong move, but he does need to push the limits some.
Got my jury duty summons taken care of. All those years of living in Knoxville and never got a summons, but here I am in FL for the winter and they send me one. I had to reschedule - was hoping to just get cancelled - and it will be April 18-29. We will be working all our plans around that. There is a rally in NC we want to go to that starts April 27, so have to see what we can work out on that.
Bible class tonight was good. TM is doing a great job as teacher. At first he didn't care for the book, but by teaching more in-depth, he has really brought it all together.
Arby's afterward with 4 friends and home by 9:30. Not too bad.

Another beautiful
Florida day. Partly cloudy, but temps were mild. Our walk was really nice. More people out these days as the park starts to fill up. Glad to see my neighbor Sue back for the winter. Also got some laundry.
We had our ladies social/craft time this afternoon. There were 5 of us most of the time. Crochet, knitting, and embroidery, as well as my Swedish Weaving were going on. Just before I had to leave, a new lady came in. Come to find out she had been here for 17 winters and then stopped coming. Now they are coming again. Life changes for all of us. Then Wendy came in and chatted for a while. We had gotten e-mail from our friend Carol yesterday. Her husband is in the hospital with inflamed pancreas and gall bladder, with surgery to be scheduled. Miss them here, but glad they were home in Ohio when he got sick.
Don had a 3:45 appt. with the gastroenterologist(spilchick had no suggestions so assume it is spelled right). He will be having a scope on Monday the 10th. She said she could talk to him all day getting history and still not still not find out what she needs to know. With the scope she can know what we are dealing with. We had anticipated that would be the course of action and just glad she could get him in so soon. He is still doing well with his "wounded wing".
We are so glad and blessed to be enjoying life the way we are. Who could ask for anything more?

Monday
is our CiCi's day. Specials for Seniors. Cheap and good. Of course we always eat too much, but then we don't eat supper so maybe it evens out?
Had a nice walk this morning with Pauline. It was overcast, but warm. The sun did come out before noon and I got a load of laundry hung out. So glad TM got me a retracting clothesline on the shed so I don't have to go to the other end of the park. So much more convenient.
TM was up early to walk the dog and fix coffee for the liars club, er, men's coffee time. He is playing bingo tonight, but I bailed on that one. I am tired tonight. He just came in and won $5 tonight. That will pay for his Texas hold'em on Thursday night.
Not much to say today, as it was a quiet one. TM is feeling good. He got a sling that gives him more freedom as it does not wrap around and hold his arm close to the body. Of course, he can't move it very far anyway. He just likes the idea of the freedom. We are so glad this operation has (so far) been so easy on him.
God bless

Another
wonderful Sunday in Florida. It was overcast and raining off and on all day, but was still nice and warm.
Service this morning was good. So enjoy being with our brethern at Central. Our friend Burt preached and did a tremendous job. God has bless him and he loves God so much. He added even more this evening. We have begun a search for a new preacher, which will most likely take several months to complete. If you have someone you know that is energetic and wants to come to FL. send me their information and I will present it to our elders.
We had a nice brunch at IHOP with Lary and Joanne. This evening there were 18 of us that went to Perkins. Poor waiter! but he did good. Enjoyed having time to catch up with Francis and all that went on with her over the summer.
Don continues to do well. Hope he has not pushed too hard. He even drove the Mazda today. He has finally found a way to get comfortable at night by resting his arm on a pillow.
So 2011 has begun with much promise and we are looking forward to what God has in store for us this year. We will begin our planning for travel soon. We hope to go to a few rallies and see old friends and make new ones. What is the song we used sing? "Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver and the other gold" So true. We enjoy hearing from friends thru-out the country via e-mail, facebook and Christmas cards.
God bless.

It has arrived!
2011! And I am finally back to blogging. Hoping to keep up with it this year, but I think I needed the break.
Pray that all my sweet bloggy readers are well and prepared for whatever 2011 has in store for you.
December was a busy month. Traveling Man finally went to an orthopedic surgeon who wasn't just trying to create work for his physical therapy dept. Early in 2010 he went the Bond Clinic in Winter Haven where the doc examined him and then sent him for therapy, saying it was a rotator cuff injury. The therapy was very painful and seemed to make the pain worse, so he quit going. We got involved with getting my knee fixed and he put his shoulder pain on the "back burner". We were so pleased with the attention and help we received from Celebration Orthopedics that he went there for a second opinion on his shoulder pain. After putting him thru the same testing as the previous doc, this one said no way was it rotator cuff - might be tendonitis or damage to the tendon. Sent him for an MRI. His tendon was shredded and his lower bicep muscle was detached. Tuesday, 12/28, he went into day surgery and got it reattached. The tendon could not be salvaged, so his muscle is now screwed into the bone. He has had surprisingly little pain. Tues and Wed. he did very little, but since then has been quite active for a one-handed person. In fact I only had to take Nick on 2 or 3 walks before TM once again took over. Michael and Sheila spent Wednesday with us to help out and we enjoyed being with them. Michelle was also here for a bit.
We spent Christmas day with Sheila, Michael, Michelle and Mary. It was a good day. Got to meet Hanabelle Lector Cat - who belongs to Michelle. Michael cooked a wonderful meal.
As some of you know, Michelle moved to Boston in Sept to attend Northeastern Law School. She really likes the school and has made some good friends; but she finds Boston not so great. And, of course, the cold weather does not suit her at all. Glad she was in Florida for the big winter snowstorm at Christmas.
Guess this is long enough for now. Happy New Year and may the year hold good things for you and yours.
God Bless
