From Memphis we went to Howenwald, TN, where we stayed at a Thousand Trails Preserve next to the Natchez Trace. It close to where Meriweather Lewis died. Was it suicide or murder? It is still a mystery. The museum at Hohenwald presents a statement that attributes the death to suicide. However, he was alone when shot and for at least 2 hours afterward. The museum is quite nice and gives the history of the region.
We visited Etheridge, TN and the Amish country there. The Amish country store was a fun/interesting place to go thru. There we got a map there and drove thru the countryside. From there we drove into Lawrenceburg and had lunch at the a restaurant on the square. It is a small town, meat and 3 place. The food was good and the decor was different. The owner collects stuff - all kinds of stuff, and it placed indiscriminately around the large room. Kind of a fun place.
We also drove down Railroad Bed Road. I am sure even if it had been off our route, you know that TM would have driven the road! It took us thru Summertown where there is a neat memorial to those who served bravely in the World War. Itwas placed in 1921.
Still another day, we went to Columbia/Spring City and toured Ripavilla Plantation house. Very pretty place with an interesting history. During the War Between the States when the Union occupied the house, they ran a saloon out of the dining room. I need to find out what Union Troops were there, it is possible one of my relatives was there drinking!
We were told to check out the Sheboss Cemetary at night. It is "haunted". Yeah, right. We did check out the cemetary, but didn't bother to do it at night.
Sunday we attended services at Springer Church of Christ. Very friendly folk. Sang many of the old songs and the preacher was interesting. He is a local boy who went to Memphis School of Preaching and returned to this area.
Packed up and on the road (Railroad Bed Road), Monday morning.
