is beautiful. Our trip began with crossing the Thousand Islands bridge. Amazing, there were at least a thousand islands, wooded and lovely. Some were so small there was only room for one house. The sun was in the blue, blue sky and the water was beautiful and the trees so green.
As we crossed the St. Lawrence Seaway, we did see a container ship going up to port. There is a tall tower where you can go up and get a view, but we didn't stop since we thought we got a good view from the bridge.
Traveling up to Sunderland, Travelin
g Man and Momma Traveler were ooh-ing and aah-ing over the beautiful fields. They happen to know what crops were there and could talk a lot about living on a farm. We spent a couple of days just driving around the area and seeing all the fields and flowers, visiting the small towns and a few shops. We went to Port Perry and had lunch before boarding the boat there for a 2-hr. sightseeing tour of Lake Scugog. As we got on the boat we met 2 ladies, sisters, who were raised in the area. In fact, their father was 1st mayor of Scugog Township. Laurie, the younger, was on vaction as she lives in New Zealand. Gale, the older, still lives in the area. They were a wealth of knowledge and were fun to be with.
Saturday we went to Uxbridge to the Ribfest. But it was a bust. We were hoping for some crafters selling stuff, but there were none. This was Uxbridge's 1st ribfest and I am sure they will get more vendors participating as time goes on. We stopped at a craft/gift shop in Victoria's Corners. They didn't have what we were looking for, but we found other stuff (surely you are not surprised).
Sunday was a rainy day. Late afternoon, TM and I went to the grocery store and stopped at the museum in Beaverton. It was really interesting. Our guide was Lara, whose grandparents had come from Scotland when they were young and homesteaded near Beaverton. In order to homestead, they had to clear 5 acres of the land given to them and build a 16' by 20' cabin within 2 years. She and TM had a good time talking about the "old" tools that were on display, as they had both used many of them.
Ontario seems to be the "bread basket" of Canada and the farms are huge. Also lots of cattle.
It was a good time. Might be a nice place to spend the summ
er someday.
