They had gotten to Sault Ste. Marie the afternoon before and already been down by the lake and Soo Locks. They were so enthusiastic about what they had seen and our plans for the boat ride.

e priviledge of seeing TWO 1,000 foot ships. There are only 13 that size around and we were seeing 2 of them - even the guide seemed 
impressed. You have to click on the picture and blow it up to really see that there are two of them. It was an absolutely beautiful day. Going thru the US locks was a real experience. We entered at the level of Lake Huron and the boat had to be raised 21 feet to the level of Lake Superior. How neat is that? We were facing a concrete wall and then, shortly, we were looking out over a park. We traveled on into Lake Superior and were shown the sights. The 3 railroad bridges drew TM and Doug's attention right a way. They were all open, as they only have trains thru 3 times a day. The steel mill on the Canadian side was really huge.

This picture was shot from over a mile from the steel mill, that thing is too large to really show in a picture.We came back thru the Canadian Soo Locks and, of course, had to be lowered the 21 feet. There were some beautiful buildings on that side. Someday we would like to go to Sault Ste. Marie Ontario.
The most interesting building, however, is on the US side. It is the power plant and you would hardly believe
how big it is. Also, the masons had spent some time making it look 
as if lighthouses were on the side. Hard to explain, but the picture will help.

Wow! How cool is that?!? And how special are you to have two huge boats available for viewing!
