Choo-Choo

Of course we found a train to ride! Was there even any question? And it was steam.

The 1880 Train runs from Keystone to Hill City SD (and back) and all the cars are restored vintage cars. We rode in one of the open sided cars - the better to get photos. We went thru some pretty narrow spots. If you were stupid, you could reach out and touch the rock walls on either side. We did see some wildlife along the way.

When we arrived in Hill City, we had 45 minutes for lunch. We went to a local place that had a buffet. The food was really good, better than I expected anyway.
When we got back to the station, TM was busy taking photos while I perused the gift shop. We were taking the trolley back to Keystone because we wanted to see other scenery. TM found our driver in the gift shop and asked her if he would have time to get pics of the train leaving the station. No problem, she would be happy to wait. Since there were only 4 customers on the trolley, nobody minded at all. Our ride back was awesome. We stopped at 2 different place to get pics of Mt. Rushmore from different sides.

Needless to say we really enjoyed this day.

Oh yeah, when we were walking around Keystone TM stopped to get coffee and I noticed "sweet tea" on the menu. Naturally I asked. The lady was from KY and of course she kept sweet tea, it is a necessity of life!

God Bless.
